Vision Statements & Goals & Objectives
Torah School of Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom is a supplementary school open to all who wish to make Reform Jewish education part of their family lives. Like the Temple of which it is an integral part, the Torah School is dynamic, inclusive and welcoming. Based on the pillars of worship, study and acts of loving kindness, the children at Torah School pray and learn together, and participate in tsedaka and social justice. Creativity, equality, spirituality, and curiosity infuse and guide the pedagogical approach and programming at Temple Torah School. Children and their families come together to celebrate Shabbat every week as part of the Torah School program.
Jewish education at Temple includes learning to read and pray in Hebrew, understanding the stories and lessons of the Jewish Bible, celebrating the holidays and traditions of the Jewish calendar, and expressing spirituality through art and music. Through a multi-faceted and trilingual educational program, children at Temple’s Torah School sing, create, learn, and contribute to their communities. As they grow at Temple, children develop their sense of identity as responsible Reform Jews able to participate fully in Jewish worship and in ongoing discussions relevant to the past, present, and future of liberal Jewish life in Canada and around the world.
