Please note that a special Family Shabbat will be held on June 22 to provide our young children with the opportunity to thank Rabbi Lerner.

Everyone is invited to include a message in a beautifully bound Tribute Book to be presented to Rabbi Lerner on June 13. Please share a personal greeting or special memory of Rabbi Lerner’s involvement in your wedding, bar/bat mitzvah, brit milah, baby naming, or other special occasion. Please use the form that you will be receiving in the February/March issue of The Voice and return it to the Temple office by March 30, 2012. Introduction to Judaism Course
Tuesday evenings at 5:45 PM, 10 weeks beginning February 14
Learn to Read Hebrew, Review Jewish Practices, History: The popular 12 week Introduction to Judaism class, offered by Rabbi Leigh Lerner and Rabbi Julia Appel, which teaches the reading of Hebrew and explains Jewish holidays, life cycle, and traditional history, starts its spring series on February 14. It is required for those converting to Judaism or for those entering an interfaith marriage under Temple's auspices. Those who simply wish to learn to read Hebrew may attend the first fifteen minutes of each Tuesday's session for 10 weeks. Cost for up to two people per family: $50 Hebrew only; $200 complete course; $250 non-members, includes course fee, books and a Shabbat dinner for every individual/couple. The Muslim Brotherhood has been discussed frequently in the news recently as the party that may become the next ruling party in Egypt. This course will explore the Brotherhood from its founding in 1928 to the present and will study its founding principles, the biographies of its leadership and what this augurs for the future.

“First Fridays” Early Kabbalat Shabbat Services

The first Shabbat of every month is dedicated to our families. On these dates, Friday evening services will be held at 5:45 PM (no 8:15 PM services on these dates). After services, enjoy a delicious Shabbat dinner by reservation only. Dinner cost: Adult: $18; children 12 and under $10. Purim Celebrations
Wednesday, March 7, 6:00 pm
As always, Temple has fun and festive plans to celebrate Purim! The festivities will begin with a festive Purim Dinner at 6:00 PM, followed by the Purim service, Megillah reading and costume parade at 6:45 PM. Best adult costume will win a $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant. Our hilarious annual Purim Spiel will begin at 7:30 PM. This year's Purim Spiel will be "OCCUPY Shushan!" The script is by Harry Rajchgot, with songs by Harry Rajchgot and Rabbi Lerner. Dessert will be served at 8:15 PM.

Jewish Women's History Week Transmitted in Ritual Objects and Artifacts

Every year, Temple celebrates women's contribution to Jewish religious and community life through our annual Jewish Women's History Week Shabbaton, organized by the Jewish Women's History Committee. The Museum Committee, another active committee at Temple, maintains one of the foremost collections of Judaica in Canada. This March, the two committees unite to highlight the extraordinary contribution of women immortalized in ritual objects and artifacts. Join us for a unique women-led Friday night service on March 30, to be followed on Saturday by a luncheon, tour of the museum, and afternoon seminar. Reservations for the luncheon are required and the luncheon cost is $18 per person. The afternoon program is free of charge and open to all.
