In commemoration of Yom HaShoah which begins this evening, Rabbi Greenspan recorded a few poems written by children during the Holocaust in the concentration camp Terezin.
Many young people who lost their lives during the Holocaust do live on because of the writings and artwork they left behind. Anne Frank maybe be the most famous, but there are many others. Some of these children are memorialized in two books, We Are Children Just the Same and I Never Saw Another Butterfly, both of which contain artwork, poems and prose by children imprisoned at Terezin.
The last poem in Rabbi Greenspan’s recording, The Butterfly, was set to music by Lisa Glatzer Shenson, who won a NFTY Song Contest with this song in the 1970’s.
