Temple has a long-standing and meaningful connection to Israel. We run congregational trips, bring in speakers on Israeli themes, read books by Israeli authors, and are engaged in the efforts to strengthen progressive Judaism, pluralism, and peace.
We are proud to be part of ARZA Canada, the Canadian Reform Zionist organization.
What is ARZA CANADA?
1. ARZA CANADA partners with the Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism (IMPJ), to support their inspiring efforts and goals in Israel. The IMPJ is growing quickly, including new congregations, new schools, a summer camp and the training of new rabbis. Israeli-born Reform rabbis are bringing the pluralistic, egalitarian and democratic message of Reform Judaism to Israelis who reject the orthodox control of society and are looking for a non-orthodox way to be Jewish. ARZA Canada’s fundraising strengthens the work of the IMPJ and the Israel Religious Action Centre (IRAC), via Canadian Friends of the World Union for Progressive Judaism
2. ARZA CANADA actively works with Canadian Reform congregations to deepen Israel connections through education about relevant events and activities in Israel, with particular regard to religious pluralism and equality. ARZA Canada supports education and travel programs for Reform Jews across Canada to help them understand the urgent issues for a Jewish and democratic state. A scholarship (ARZA CANADA Rabbi Stroh Scholarship) is offered to inspiring young leaders attending education programs supported by the Reform movement in Israel for a period of at least six months.
3. ARZA CANADA is a member of the Canadian Zionist Federation (CZF) as well as ARZENU, the umbrella association of Reform Zionist Organizations around the world. We are the Reform Jewish Zionist voice in Canada. As a member of ARZENU we play an important role in Israeli politics as Canada’s Reform and progressive representatives in the World Zionist Congress (WZC).
ARZA CANADA is a membership organization led by volunteer lay leaders. ARZA CANADA is the Zionist arm of the Reform Movement in Canada.
