She has been awarded the CWA Dagger, Nero, Macavity and Barry Awards, as well as two each of the Arthur Ellis and Dilys Awards. In addition, she has won the Agatha Award (seven times), and was a finalist for the Edgar Award for Best Novel. In 2017, she received the Order of Canada for her contributions to Canadian culture. This series will be held Wednesdays at noon, beginning November 18, and take a break on December 16th, resuming in 2021. The Talmud is a central Jewish text, famously full of legal debates, but also full of stories. These weekly classes will explore different tales from the Talmud, and what they reveal about human nature, relationships, ethics, and God. We will delve into the history and meaning of the liturgical texts, and then explore how different cantors and composers have expressed that text through music.
