After several days of bright sunshine and warm winter, a front brought cold and rain,(Sharav), reminding us it is still winter in Israel.
The grey day provided an appropriate setting for our visit at Yad Vashem. There, our guide Natan Landau along with Rabbi Grushcow helped to deepen our knowledge of the Holocaust and that of the Righteous of the Nations.
The somber tone of the day was lightened at the bustling Machane Yehuda market where the bright colours of candy, only to be matched by the wafts of spices, of baked breads and freshly ground coffee. The search for the perfect knafeh was on.
Our day ended with a song-filled Kabbalat Shabbat service at the Kehilat Kol HaNeshama synagogue, followed by dinner with congregants, several of whom had made Aliyah. No wonder we were more than exhausted!
